Located within a rehabilitated and reinvigorated 114,000 sf historic brewery building located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s vibrant South Side, The Brew House re-imagines conventional housing models, making artists and their workspaces the center of a mixed-income residential community. The entire development, including individual units and public spaces, is holistically planned and designed entirely around the creative process employed by artists and members of the creative class.
Artist-centric apartments are designed to be manipulated by residents to suit their individual lifestyle and creative process, and a range of formal and informal public spaces interspersed throughout the building provide opportunities for residents to share their work with each other and to engage the broader community.
Sustainable design and building technologies are incorporated to lower utility costs for residents and overall operational costs for the building, including brewery storage tanks converted to hold rainwater and HVAC water loop storage, a photovoltaic rooftop array, and a building monitoring system.
